What do you use the park for?
What do you do there? Who do you go with? Are there any other things that you would like to do in the park?

3Fishing, bushwalking and picnicing with friends and family. It's one of the best things about living in Sydney. Earlier this year (2009) my husband and I spotted an echidna near North Head - less than 2 km from an urban area.

2I am a regular kayaker on Sydney Harbour so spend a lot of time on the edges of the SHNP! Wildlife spotting is great, have paddled with seals and penguins, been circled by sea eagles, and seen all manner of marine life. And then nothing beats pulling into secret spots on the Harbour for a good coffee!

3Bushwalking, picnics, great places to take overseas tourists and see plants, animals and birds.

2I think one aspect in this post is much under-rated. To have the ability for tourists to visit such beautiful and (sometimes) unspoilt natural places within a few minutes drive of the Sydney CBD is something that we in Sydney do not fully appreciate.
Taking overseas visitors to North Head and just looking back towards the city is a magic experience for them, and I have not had one person who has not wanted to just sit down for a while to take it all in.

I cycle my bike through North head National Park almost every weekend. I love it. The opportunity to have a moment away from the hustle and bustle of the CBD and the shopping precincts of the Northern beaches is a real treasure.

1I walk around North Head. The biggest problem for visitors is the inconsistant signage. Many visitors looking for 'North Head' are in fact wanting to go to the Lady Fairfax lookout and are confused by the North Head Sanctuary signage. The various maps offered by some of the landholders are very confusing.

6Nothing, four times I've been passing through on rockclimbing holidays and would loved to have climbed at North Head however it is currently banned.
Its an amazing difference in Management between sydney itself and either the blue mountains to the west or point perpendicular to the south.

4My wife and I love walking down to the clothes optional beaches of Middle Head, the bird life and sounds and sights of the bush.
We consider ourselves as Naturists and therefore enjoy the environment and wish to look after it, often retrieving rubbish for correct disposal from the beach and harbour, and we have seen others who use the beaches do this as well.
Having clothes optional beaches at Middle Head is a real blessing our only complaint is that there are so few others in Sydney, so these get busy.

2We are a couple from Raby NSW whom travel to Cobblers Beach every at every oppurtunity, we are long term nudists/naturists and have made many friends at this location.
We hope that any future development or manage plan will keep this location open to the many nudists whom currently gather here. To those whom think nudists are a bunch of perverts and swingers, this simply not the case, mainstream media has unfortunately tarred us all with the same brush. Those whom are interested may enquire about our couples only nudist website, ANCN which is a family orientated site and lobby group for nudist recreation, there is strict membership criteria to keep out undesirables. 1I couldn't agree more with George S, Cobblers beach is the cleanest beach I visit in the harbour and credit goes to the NPWS for their vision in allowing clothing optional bathing there.
Though CO bathing is not my cup of tea, the folk at Cobblers are always friendly and better behaved than at any other harbour beach
Sydney is the laughing stock of Europe for its puritan attitude to beach use, The NPWS are the only government department operating in the 21st century in this regard.

0Well said Karma.
The park should continue to provide for a diversity of leisure activities, provided only that the environment is not harmed. It is hard to think of a less environmentally harmful activity than visiting one of Sydney's clothes-optional, foot access only beaches.
I'd like to think that the standard of all the other harbour beaches would improve if they were accepted as clothes optional. However I suspect that the cleanliness of Cobblers is as much due to the effects of the prevailing wind and tide as to the public spirit of those who go there.

5Bushwalking and Rockclimbing.
Currently true rockclimbing involving the use of rope for personal protection is banned inside SHNP which percludes climbing at (most notably) North Head and The Gap. I would like this ban to be lifted. An important part of the heritage of the Sydney climbing cummunity lies within these crags. They have a long history and several of the routes are nothing short of iconic. The routes are NOT inherently unsafe.

2I believe that rock climbing is a valid activity that should be allowed in SHNP.

2Bushwalking, mostly in the summer months when it is too hot (or danger of fires) in other NPs. I'm always pleased to see improvements being undertaken, sandstone steps, wooden walkways etc as these help preserve the tracks from erosion. Money well spent!

1>What do you do there?
Bushwalk / sight-seeing activities, and some hobby based photography.
>Who do you go with?
Family, friends, and overseas visitors. I also sometimes go alone.
>Are there any other things that you would like to do in the park?
Yes. Rockclimb on the seacliffs.
I used to do this activity at that location in times pre-dating the areas inclusion within the Park.
I still climb, but unfortunately not in SHNP. This is a great shame not only for the unjustified present loss of that amenity, but also due the negative light that it casts the past decision (by the then SHNP administrators), in.
I really hope that the upcoming review of the current Management Plan will reconsider favourably this aspect of usage of the park for the future.

1I love the natural bush close to the harbour. The clothing optional/naturist beaches are a perfect place to enjoy Sydney and the harbour. Testament is the amount of users in summer on weekdays and especially when there is hardly room to move on warm weekends.

1Yesterday, 20minutes after leaving my CBD office, I was running around Bradleys Head - could not see a building/hear a car. How many cities is that possible in ?
